Dear Saints,
The end of school is officially upon us: LGA’s graduation was this past Friday, and everyone else’s last day is this coming Wednesday. The year began with an excited sense of adventure; it’s finishing with a gratified sense of accomplishment. That didn’t happen by accident.
Our school is founded on the proposition that, by God’s own design, human beings are known, loved, and unrepeatable. That means we can’t just stick students in some sort of prefab box and move them through the year on a checklist conveyor belt. On the contrary, our job each and every day is to create an environment of ready acceptance, interesting and appropriate challenge, and unconditional love as we equip each child to seek, find, and embrace his own unique purpose. That work is daunting, unending, sometimes exhausting, often thankless, and, in my view, the noblest undertaking in the world.
Our students spent the year immersed in truth, goodness, and beauty, and they are markedly wiser and more virtuous because of it. They are more thoughtful scholars, more courageous leaders, and more loving friends now than they were in September, and that was the goal.
I’m extraordinarily proud of all that we achieved this year, and I want to thank everyone who helped make our time together so wonderful. Education is a team sport, and I stand in awe of the unflagging dedication of our administration, faculty, and staff. It is a privilege to stand shoulder to shoulder with you as we take on the magnificent work of preparing children for lives of eternal meaning and unceasing joy.
Christ’s Peace,
Father Daniel
