Dear Saints,
We’re back to school! These first few days have been marked by the typical excitement of a new year: perhaps a few butterflies, mixed with a great deal of anticipation. The smiles on our students’ faces really do say it all.
The thrill of a new beginning is something we can all understand. As human beings, we’re made to develop. Whether it’s cognitive, athletic, spiritual, or interpersonal, we naturally crave advancement. Progress is a good and beautiful goal.
As we get older, however, the challenge is to make sure we’re not settling for mere motion. It can be easy to confuse the two, but just because we’re on the move doesn’t mean we’re going in the right direction.
That’s why it’s always important to know our end, especially every time we begin again. We should always ask ourselves “what,” “where,” and “why.” What am I running to? Where will I find it? Why am I going there?
Most importantly, we should ask ourselves “who.” Who am I seeking?
As long as Jesus is our answer, our progress will be surefooted, marked with promise, and full of adventure. Just like when we were kids.
Christ’s Peace,
Father Daniel
