Dear Saints,
American history buffs can tell you that the first Englishman from New England was Peregrine White. He was born on the Mayflower while the ship lay at anchor in Cape Cod’s harbor, having made the trip across the sea in utero.
Peregrine’s name came from the word peregrination, which essentially means a long and wandering journey. Under the circumstances it was a fitting name for a baby boy, especially when you consider that his five year old brother was named Resolved.
Advent is an invitation to embark on our own resolved peregrination: it’s a slow, step-by-step journey with a clear destination; the way is clearly marked but requires intention and grit to follow it; the experience will transform the traveler.
We only have a few days left on our Advent journey. If we give it all we’ve got and all we are, the coming Christmas season will unlock for us a whole new world, with an entirely new horizon.
Christ’s Peace,
Father Daniel
